Terry Parish, SASHE, CHFM, CHC, CHSP, has worked in the health care field for over 30 years, is currently the corporate director of regulatory compliance with Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Columbus, Ga., and is a former surveyor with the Joint Commission as a life safety code specialist surveyor. Terry has provided consulting services in the areas of the environment of care, life safety assessments, statement of conditions, plans review, interim life safety, and infection control during construction to numerous health care facilities. He has also provided education and training to a variety of health care organizations and health care contractors. Terry has been an ASHE member for 13 years and serves on the faculty for the ASHE Certified Healthcare Constructor Exam Review Course. He has served as a board member of the Georgia Society for Hospital Engineers for seven years, was president of the organization in 2003, and was nominated Engineer of the Year in 2002. Terry earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration in 2007 from Troy University.

Brian Cotten, PE, CHFM, FASHE

Brian has more than 25 years of experience in the health care industry. He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Arkansas and currently serves as the Executive Director of Design and Construction at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS). Over the past ten years, Brian has overseen a major growth program at UAMS, which consisted of over $700 million and 1.5 million square feet of expansion. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Arkansas, former president of the Arkansas Association for Healthcare Engineering, a member of the Arkansas Fire Prevention Code review committee, and was appointed by the Governor to serve on the Arkansas Fire Protection Licensing Board. Brian has served on numerous ASHE committees, and is currently a member of the Education Committee. Also, he was a contributor to the development of the recently published ASHE Health Facility Commissioning Handbook.

Steve Spaanbroek, MBA, FASHE, CHFM, CHC, has more than 20 years of experience in the health care market, and focuses primarily on regulatory compliance consulting in multi-service health care facilities across the country. Steve has chaired and served on numerous committees with ASHE. Steve’s areas of expertise include health care facilities management, environmental issues, Life Safety Code®, construction planning, safety, risk assessment, performance improvement, and emergency preparedness.
